Things have changed since the need for ‘harm reduction’  was identified decades ago. A national conference will be held in winter 2011 to explore where we are with harm reduction, challenge some ideas, celebrate progress an work towards a positive future. This Toronto forum in September is intended to start a conversation, identify issues, collect stories and ideas.

Morning - Who is in the room? Learn about each other – what are you doing?

Afternoon - How can you do it better? What important questions are being raised, what issues need to be raised and the national conference in February.

This workshop provides the opportunity for you to share your confusions, fears, concerns and also your success with the harm reduction as a practice.  It is an opportunity to unravel some of the past, present and future responses to the notion of reducing harm and update the concept so as to open up questions that ask,

  • Is the term ‘harm reduction’ still effective and useful?
  • What works, what progress has been made – what can we celebrate?
  • What changes (if any) need to be made to ensure a flexible, compassionate and nuanced tool for those struggling with addiction.

The results will be collected and used to inform the conference process .
