** Babette Rothschild became very ill with a severe flu virus and is
unable to fly to Canada. Apparently much of L.A. has been affected. Babette sends her deepest apologies. The Nottawasaga Inn has been very generous and helpful in moving the event. We at CAST Canada apologize for the inconvenience and hope to see you all in April!
A Note from Babette:
It is a completely new experience for me to postpone a scheduled program, something I have never--in my 2+decades of international training and lecturing--done before! The circumstances (flu with vertigo) were such that I had little choice, but nonetheless I contacted CAST Canada with trepidation--How would they respond? How would the participants react? The result has been an amazingly warming experience of care, concern and cooperation. I am very, very touched and a bit emotional taking it all in. Thank you, all of you!! Rest assured, I am doing everything possible to get healthy and back in balance so that by the rescheduled dates, April 2-3, I will be on top for the two-day training.
A situation like this can bring out the best or the worst in people. Since I had not worked with Tom Regehr or Becca Partington (the directors of CAST Canada) before, I didn't know what to expect. Well I found out and want to tell you so you will know exactly who these organizers and hosts of the (now) April training are...They are awesome, warm, caring, generous people. They could not have been more kind or flexible. We are all in very, very good hands with them in charge!!
Looking forward to seeing you all in April!!
Babette Rothschild is widely known for the very popular book The Body Remembers. Her accompanying Casebook and the ideas within it make up the bulks of this training. The training will be an accessible blend of theory, application and discussion.
You will be able to easily apply Babette's concepts to your work upon your return.
All of Babette's books will be on sale at the event via Caversham Books, your 'go-to' bookstore.
About this 2 day training, from our conversation with Babette,
- Intended for therapists, counsellors as well as general frontline workers such as income and housing support, outreach, shelter, courts etc.
- It will equip people to help their clients improve quality of life, whether or not they ever process trauma memories
- They will be able to and be encouraged to use much of the theory and principles and many of the techniques for intervening and reducing their own risks for compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma, although those won’t be the emphasis of the training
- They will be able to discuss the structure of the bodies nervous system, particularly the sensory nervous system and the autonomic nervous system
